The 32nd World Congress of the IALP was held at Aotea Centre, Auckland, New Zealand from 20th to 24th August, 2023.
IALP Past-President Pamela Enderby (UK), IALP President Brian Shulman (US) and the New Zealand Organizing committee were delighted to welcome 1,024 delegates from 54 countries around the world (10 % of them being students) to Auckland, New Zealand for the 32nd World Congress of IALP and the start of the celebration of IALP’s 100th anniversary period/Centennial.
Congress delegates were warmly welcomed to Aotearoa, New Zealand by the local iwi (indigenous tribe) of the land, Ngāti Whātua Ōrakei and the honorable Marama Davidson (Member of Parliament) in the Opening Ceremony. The invited keynote speakers, Prof Gail Gillon (NZ), Prof Georgia Malandraki (US) and Prof De Wet Swanepoel (ZA) as well as the WHO representative Antonio Duttine presented very engaging and thought-provoking presentations.
The scientific program was complemented with an equally exciting social program with various half-day excursions and a memorable Gala Dinner.
The 31st World Congress of the IALP was held from 18th to 22nd August 2019 in Taipei, Taiwan, and was a terrific success.
IALP President Li-Rong Lily Cheng (US), Congress Chair Meng-Ju Tsai and Chairperson of the Speech-Language-Hearing Association Taiwan, Wen-Ying Yeh, welcomed 961 delegates from 46 countries at the Evergreen International Convention Center in the heart the city.
The invited keynote speakers, Prof Martine Smith (Ireland), Prof Helen Grech (Malta) and Dr Chia-Ying Lee (Taiwan) presented the main reports along with two discussants each. The scientific program offered diverse opportunities to stimulate professional exchange and collaboration: a WHO and an International Communication Project session, a Global Leadership and an IALP Presidential Forum, 21 IALP Standard Committee sessions, plus 179 oral and 179 poster abstract presentations.
The exciting social program offered various half-day excursions that concluded with an unforgettable Gala Dinner at the Taipei National Palace Museum.
The Triennial World Congress of the International Association of Communication Sciences and Disorders (IALP) is one of the most important activities of the Association. It is a physical event of IALP for continued education in addition to professional networking provided through social and cultural activities.
